small resolutions

I did pretty good with my small resolutions in January.

With a snag or two in the road, I ate pretty healthy. I definitely still need to eat healthy and lose some weight, so I signed up for a free account at SparkPeople. For the past few years, my diet of choice has been the Weight Watchers Core Program, but it's just not working for me anymore. I used to like being able to eat until I was full, while focusing on healthier, core foods. But these days I feel like I just need more flexibility. I haven't been able to maintain my goal weight and the lack of variety was consistently causing me to stray off my "diet." So I decided to learn how to count calories, and I have found it's surprisingly easy to stay off track. It probably helps that I don't need to lose a ton.

I also managed to create clean surfaces in my house. This is a big one for me! I don't know how or why it is, but the less clutter there is in my life, the happier my disposition is. Joel and I spent a couple of days narrowing down our files (we took all that junk that we are supposed to keep for 6+ years and put it in a cardboard file box, and shoved it into storage). I threw away what we didn't need and found permanent homes for the rest. This is not to say that clutter never happens, but there is less clutter and it's much easier to maintain.

In comes February. Honestly, how did it even happen? It seems like just yesterday that I was suffering from the despair of a Minnesota January, and here it is, over already. I've been mulling over my February resolutions and here they are:

1. Sew at least two items that I have been wanting to sew. The first will be this sewing machine cover. The second I have yet to decide on.

2. Finish at least one knitting project.

Also, my good friend Sarah has challenged her readers to participate in the Be Kind Challenge for February. I determined to participate and then forgot all about it. Fortunately, without even meaning to, Rosemary and I did do something kind today. We may or may not have drafted some letters that somebody's grandparents may or may not receive in the mail in the next day or so. I didn't take pictures, but it was a lot of fun and will hopefully be a surprise to said grandparents. I'm not really sure whose grandparents they were sent to, probably not Rosemary's.

Anywho, being that I started late - it's not too late for any of you either. Sarah provided a great list of ideas here.

  1. Way to go on your resolutions :) Just a small comment on Sparkpeople: I've been using it and I find it very helpful in being honest with myself. I really like their tools a lot.
